Start Spreading The News
I’m going to be having this conversation a lot over the next week(s) or so and I wanted to post something about it here to fill in the handful of people who follow me and care to know what’s going in my life. In other words, it saves me a handful of conversations about it. The Short Version I’m moving back to Rochester tomorrow night.
The Longer Version I’ve been in New...

2011
Over the summer I began referring to 2011 as my Great Big Year. I’m in my head all the time. I’m too nostalgic. I get paranoid. I like to put a label on the eras of my life. So over the summer I started making a word document of what this year has been. Here’s what 2011 was:

I caved a bit on my no soda until birthday thing because getting up early...
Charlie Kaufman: Why I wrote Being John Malkovich
My first writing job was on a TV show called Get a Life. The show was mostly in the voice of its creators, Chris Elliott and Adam Resnick, who’d worked on the David Letterman Show. Adam’s scripts were the best thing about Get a Life – and we all tried to write in Adam’s voice. That was the job.
I was frustrated with the results, but it occurred to me that there was no solution...

That night in Toronto...
It has been a long week of driving. I went to the Toronto International Film Festival with my pal Jon this week. We were there two nights and three days. Well, I was there three days. Jon left early via the megabus on the third day. Canadians are very cool people. Whether they were working somewhere or just random strangers on the street, they were just so friendly and helpful. The whole festival...
