Things Kirk likes!

Things I like silly!

That night in Toronto…

It has been a long week of driving. I went to the Toronto International Film Festival with my pal Jon this week. We were there two nights and three days. Well, I was there three days. Jon left early via the megabus on the third day. Canadians are very cool people. Whether they were working somewhere or just random strangers on the street, they were just so friendly and helpful. The whole festival is mostly run by volunteers and if it were me answering the same questions over and over again all day, I would tear my hair out.

I liked most of the movies I saw. Even the ones I wasn’t as crazy about had their interesting moments. I saw:

Death For Sale (Dir. Faouzi Bensaidi)
Your Sister’s Sister (Dir. Lynn Shelton)
Killer Joe (Dir. William Friedkin)
Damsels In Distress (Dir. Whit Stillman)
I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, The Mad, And The Beautiful (Dir. Jonathan Demme)
Like Crazy (Dir. Drake Doremus)
The Odds (Dir. Simon Davidson)
Jeff, Who Lives At Home (Dir. Jay & Mark Duplass)

The directors of all these films did a short Q+A after the screenings with the exception of Like Crazy. In addition to the directors, some actors/a writer also participated in the q+a’s, which was neat. I got to see Tracy Letts, Emile Hirsch, Juno Temple, Greta Gerwig, Adam Brody, & a handful of others whom I’m not familiar with.

It was a nice adventurous getaway and I would love to go to the fest again someday. It was a lot of driving, walking, waiting in line, and sitting in theaters. On the way back I stopped in Buffalo and played music and then Geneseo to see some great people who I wish I saw more often.

Now I am home. I am not getting as many hours as I would like at work. I think I may need to find another job in order to save up some money. I am trying hard to not let this lull period consume me and make me feel shitty. A lot of things changed and people went away fairly quickly and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sad about it.

That’s all.

Love,
Kirk
